A skylight lens takes more direct sun than any other surface on your home. Year after year of Sacramento summers, the acrylic yellows, clouds over and turns brittle, and the room underneath dims so gradually that most people blame the paint or the light fixture long before they think to look up.

Replacing the lens brings the daylight back without disturbing the rest of the roof.  ACS Roofing replaces skylight lenses. We do not install new skylights or sun tunnels.

Signs your lens is due for replacement

  • The light coming through has gone yellow, brown or grey
  • The surface looks milky or hazy from inside the room
  • A web of fine cracks has appeared across the dome
  • There is visible cracking or impact damage from a branch or storm debris
  • Staining, drips or moisture around the opening
  • Debris or standing water sitting inside the dome

Any of these is worth a look. Damage to the lens itself tends to get worse quickly once the material has started to break down.

What happens when we come out

Skylights vary enough that this cannot be quoted sight unseen. A nationally certified inspector comes to the property, identifies the unit, and looks at the condition of the curb, the flashing and the roofing around it before recommending anything. The lens is rarely the whole story, and it is worth knowing what else is going on up there before work is scheduled.

You receive a written proposal, and nothing proceeds until you have agreed to it.

If water is coming in

Water showing up near a skylight often has nothing to do with the dome. Flashing, the curb the skylight sits on, and the roofing that ties into it are all more common sources. If there is active water entering the home, request a leak and repair evaluation instead and we will look at the whole assembly.

Request skylight lens replacement

Use the Other Services appointment form and choose Skylight Lens Replacement. Tell us roughly how many skylights are involved and what you are seeing, and we will arrange a time to come out and take a look.
